Maruti 800 is a best seller car from the stable of India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki. It maintained its status of India's best selling car for many years until it was outsold by another Maruti small car model Alto in the year 2004. Alto is still the best selling car of India.
Launched in 1984, Maruti 800 instantly became a success. The car was then competing with Premier Padmini and Hindustan Motors Ambassador. It is sold in various countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Chile. The car is sold as Suzuki Mehran in the South Asian country of Pakistan.

Maruti 800 used to be India's least expensive car until the arrival of the high-profile small car Tata Nano. As of now the base version of Maruti 800 comes at the price of Rs. 1.8 lakh. (ex-showroom, New Delhi), while the high-end Maruti 800 Uniq comes at the price of Rs. Rs. 2.2 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
